Emma: Undergraduate degree in poetry and politics followed by an MA in Fashion Journalism at London’s Central Saint Martins
Style: State of Undress is Sexy, but not provocative. Sweet, but not saccharine whilst evoking the glamour of the 1940’s silver screen and vintage pin-ups. State of Undress is crafted from 100% silk, their distinctive prints are created by some of London’s most talented textile artists including Daniel Reynolds, Dominique Devaux and Oonagh O’Hagan and are highly collectible.
Story: Both State of Undress designers originated from Vancouver, Canada with Alexandra working with the design team at Sonia Rykiel and then locating to London. Emma, a lifelong collector of vintage lingerie, found her interest focused by an essay on 19th century Parisian courtesans which was the topic of her final thesis.
Highlights:
Alexandra: Her graduate collection, shown as part of London’s Fashion Week, received the prestigious Lancôme Colour Design Award for modern femininity – subsequently being bought by Burberry for the Spring/Summer 2003 collection.
Emma: Working with legendary catwalk photographer Chris Moore and later becoming a senior editor at Worth Global Style Network and being part of the founding editorial team behind urbanjunkies.
